WHAT IS IT?

Capability makes it unique in the world of trenchless technology. If you want to install a gravity sewer underneath a building, road, pathway, stream, runway, railway track etc., then it is most likely that Multi Drill would be the most suitable platform. Other similar platforms require either major preparation works or cannot drill a gravity fall. Multi Drill is designed to work off a mini excavator such as the one pictured overleaf, allowing us to tackle most jobs where the work area is restricted, such as residential environments. Multi Drill also allows us to drill gravity drains, water mains and conduits where trenching is not an option.

CASE STUDY

ROEHAMPTON, SOUTH LONDON

To install and connect a new drain for 34 flats for a major national construction company to a Water main 60 metres away under the A3 (four lane dual carriageway) using 100mm diameter pipe. The Multi Drill was used for this project, we managed to install the new run without having to dig any trenches, or close any part of a very busy road. The drain was installed in one day and resulted in huge cost savings.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Multi Drill operates from a pit, approximately 1.5 metres wide by 2.5 metres long. The depth of the pit is slightly deeper than the depth of the intended new pipe thus allowing us to start drilling at the required invert. This differs from many of its counterparts such as ground launched drilling platforms. These tend to waste precious space, as to drill from the surface and bend the bars from a near vertical to a horizontal position at the required invert requires many more metres of room. The ability to start drilling, already at the required depth enables Multi Drill to work in more confined locations, saving time and ultimately expense. When sat in the pit, Multi Drill drills towards a receiving pit at the
End of the required run. Dependant on the soil conditions, if required it will spray a chemical agent when creating the bore to keep it intact. The progress of the drill head is constantly monitored whilst it is creating the bore to ensure it drills exactly where intended. If the drill head is going off course, it is able to change direction both horizontally and vertically using a digital relay transponder system. Once the drill head has reached the required point, then the new pipe is attached to a reamer, which is then attached to the drill head. Multi Drill is then put in reverse, and pulls back the pipe into the newly created bore.
