Many of the 40-50 year old pitch fibre pipes are squashed and deformed and in urgent need of repair. Re-rounding these pipes can be use to repair them.

Pipe re-rounding

A method of re-rounding these pitch fibre pipes has been developed to repair the old pitch fibe pipes. Using specialist equipment a series of dies are winched through the line removing the blisters and restoring the original profile of the defective pipe. Resin lining is then used and the result is a more efficient system with many years of the life ahead.

Pitch fibre pipe issues

During the nineteen sixties and seventies a new material was used for constructing drains. The clay pipes joined with cement were time consuming and expensive and a material called pitch fibre pipe was introduced. This consists of pitch impregnated pulp formed into tubes, similar in length to their modern UVPC equivalent.

For the past forty or fifty years these pipes have been adequate, now major problems are becoming apparent and the interior of the pitch fibre pipes are developing blisters. In addition the pipes are squashing and deforming, sometimes leading to total collapse.
