Inten has excellent knowledge and expertise in dealing with the treatment of waste where there is no connection to mains sewers.

Many domestic and commercial properties are not serviced or have direct access to a main sewer. Therefore, an effective on site method of dealing with waste will be required.

Choosing a sewage disposal system

One of the most important decisions is the choice of the most suitable sewage disposal system for your particular site. The choice of solutions is quite varied, and there are many factors to be taken into account, including any potential environmental impact and current legislation.

At Inten Drainage Services we use only the best products by Titan, Condor, Balmoral and Klargester, and we make sure that the particular installation which is chosen is the correct choice for the particular site and the conditions at that site. We make sure that no mistakes are made at the planning stage, since this could eventually lead to problems such as groundwater pollution, backing up of sewage effluent and unpleasant odours.

Septic Tanks

Klargester and Titan Septic Tanks are suitable for populations from 4 to 38. These tanks are suitable for from 1 - 12 houses, with soakaways designed to cope with the population and ground conditions.

For septic tank soakaway design a porosity test or percolation test is carried out to determine the permeability of the sub soil.

The rate of permeability calculated from the porosity test allows the correct size of soakaway to be designed.

Our experience allows us to undertake these porosity & percolation tests and provide you with the correct solution for your site. We undertake porosity tests for domestic and commercial applications.

Percolation Tests

Before any sewage treatment plant and septic tank can be installed a percolation test will need to be carried out according to environmental agency guidlines. If a sewage treatment plant is installed without a percolation test being carried out or approval from the environmental agency you could be liable to a £25,000 fine.

Porosity Tests

The standard porosity test involves an excavation of a minimum of 3 test sites. Each hole is then filled with water and the time for each fill to empty is noted. This average time to empty is used in a British Standard calculation to determine the size of soakaway required.

A porosity test also gives our engineers an opportunity of examining what type of sub soil material is present, i.e. chalk, clay, gravel. Clearly less porous sub soils will need a larger soakaway or may not be suitable at all.
